Moldy Hellhole, with moldy basement and other known and suspected areas of mold

This place has been hell. There was exposed insulation in an unventilated basement/garage we didn’t know contained mold. We knew nothing about mold and how extremely life-changing being stuck in it was until living here. The insulation began to show visible signs of mold, in addition to having a strong smell only weeks after we moved in.

The management has been awful. We paid a year’s worth of rent for this place and they couldn’t care less how it’s affecting our health. The only thing they did was remove the insulation after being threatened, I was not mold literate and had no idea how to handle things I just thought the insulation had to come down. They did not even come close to attempting to educate themselves on mold and so of course didn’t do this portion of remediation properly. Nothing was vacuumed afterward. No HEPA vacuuming, nothing.

Ceiling joists are gray-ish now where exposed, moldy insulation has been removed. Other areas of mold issues have been exposed as of the time they did at least this much. There is a black spot of rotting wood toward the back of the ceiling area which is the floor of the first floor of the apartment. We were told the flashing wasn’t installed properly initially and that water leaked through. So there is mold growing up there/below our living space that no one is doing anything about. In addition, the closet by the front door is always damp feeling and smells musty. There are major issues.

There is discoloration from a water stain below one of the upstairs bathrooms I didn’t notice before moving in. We assume there had been a leak in that bathroom.

Oh, and it’s incredibly humid and wet here overall through the spring and summer.

This is a general summation for our unfortunate stay from Spring ‘26 until now (mid-late August.) We plan to leave in hopefully no more than 4 weeks from now. It is unlikely we will get any money back, and our health has also been significantly impacted.
